The University of Phoenix was founded in 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona, as a private bachelor's and master's degree-granting institution, with the educational mission of meeting working adults' needs for higher education. Over 93,000 adults have graduated from the University. During the years of developing and implementing education programs for working adults, the University of Phoenix has grown steadily, and currently serves approximately 70,000 students nationwide. The University currently offers programs on 28 campuses and 64 learning centers throughout the United States. In addition the University has campuses in Canada and Puerto Rico. The University was accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) in 1978.The University of Phoenix offers an Associate of Arts in Business degree program; an Associate of Arts program through credit recognition; a bachelor's level degree programs in business, management, information systems, and accounting; a bachelor's degree completion program in nursing; graduate degree programs in business, nursing, counseling, education, and computer information systems; a Doctor of Management program; and a Nurse Practitioner program. In addition, professional certificate programs and individual professional development courses are also offered.All faculty teaching at the University of Phoenix have earned master's or doctoral degrees and possess an average of fifteen years current practical experience in the field related to the subjects they are approved to instruct.
