Description

Objective:

This examination is comprised of a three hour, 210-item computer-administrated examination covering the scope of practice of an ophthalmic assistant. Allied Ophthalmic Personnel seeking certification at the COA level are required to meet one of the prerequisites outlined above to apply to sit for the examination.

Skills Measured:

The skills and/or knowledge measured include history taking (8 percent); pupillary assessment (3 percent); contact lenses (2 percent); equipment maintenance and repair (4 percent); lensometry (3 percent); keratometry (3 percent); medical ethics, legal, and regulatory issues (5 percent); microbiology (2 percent); pharmacology (8 percent); ocular motility (3 percent); assisting in surgical procedures (7 percent); ophthalmic patient services and education (16 percent); ophthalmic imaging (3 percent); refractometry (6 percent); spectacle skills (3 percent); supplemental skills (8 percent); tonometry (4 percent); visual assessment (8 percent); and visual fields (4 percent).
