There's Still Time to Nominate or Apply for an ACE Leadership Award

​​Nomination deadline extended to Jan. 15

Recognize an outstanding institution or individual for leadership in the areas of diversity and the advancement of women with an ACE Award. Applications and nominations remain open for four leadership awards and the Student of the Year Award to be presented online during ACE Awards Week, May 24-28, 2021.

Reginald Wilson Diversity Leadership Award

Established to honor Reginald Wilson, the founding director of ACE’s former Office of Minority Concerns, this award honors individuals who have demonstrated leadership and commitment on a national level to the advancement of racial and ethnic minorities and other underrepresented populations in higher education.

The 2020 Reginald Wilson Diversity Leadership award was presented to Walter Bumphus, President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges.

Donna Shavlik Award

The Donna Shavlik award was established by ACE in 1999 to honor the long and outstanding service of Donna Shavlik, past director of ACE’s former Office of Women in Higher Education. The award honors an individual whose leadership demonstrates a sustained commitment to advancing women in higher education through actions or initiatives enhancing women’s leadership and career development, campus climate, and mentoring of women at both the state and national levels.

The 2020 Donna Shavlik award was presented to Carol Moore, interim president of Guilford College.

ACE State Network Leadership Award

The ACE State Network Leadership Award for the Advancement of Women in Higher Education recognizes an outstanding and innovative program, sponsored by an ACE State Network or by a college or university that helped advance or support women or women’s issues in higher education.

The 2020 ACE State Network Leadership Award went to the Women in Education Initiative of Mott Community College in Michigan, which was established in 1999 to help female students complete their education with non-traditional financial support, personal and professional guidance, and mentoring opportunities.

ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation

The ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation recognizes colleges or universities that, in a period of great change in higher education, have responded to challenges in innovative and creative ways that allow the institution to thrive.

The award is split into two categories:

  • Category 1: Institutions with student populations of 12,001 and over
  • Category 2: Institutions with student populations of up to 12,000

Each winning institution receives a $10,000 prize.

Any individual institution that is an ACE member, or is willing to seek ACE membership, may apply for the award.

The 2020 ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation was awarded to Amarillo College and Dominican University of California.

ACE Student of the Year Award

​The ACE Student of the Year Award is also accepting nominations through Jan. 15. Through this award, ACE recognizes adult learners who have benefited from the use of ACE's military or workforce credit recommendations to earn a college degree or advance a career.

The 2019 Students of the Year were Amanda Webb, a nurse from Indianapolis, and Matthew Morin, a student at Central Michigan University.​​
