The Enhanced Training Opportunities Program, Inc. (ETOP), is a joint labor/management education cooperative. ETOP provides education and training opportunities to employees represented by the IBEW at the following companies: Lucent Technologies, Avaya, Agere, and Thomson Multimedia.ETOP's objectives are to present employees with learning experiences that will enhance occupational skills, provide opportunities for personal and career development, improve communication skills, increase knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, and increase prospects for alternative employment within Lucent, Avaya, Agere, and Thomson Multimedia or in their community, in the event of workforce reductions.In late 1987, ETOP recognized the need for employees to acquire computer skills in order to keep pace with new technologies being introduced into the workplace. To provide employees with current job-qualifying skills in computer technology, ETOP established onsite Computer Training Centers in the following locations: Allentown, Breinigsville, and Reading, Pennsylvania; Circleville and Columbus, Ohio; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Orlando, Florida; Denver, Colorado; Little Rock, Arkansas; Marion, Indiana; and Omaha, Nebraska.
