William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Centern is located on 72 acres in Hollywood, Maryland. The facility was built by workers for workers, with the purpose of helping union members meet the complete range of educational needs and to provide an atmosphere where members can study and learn undisturbed by the daily pressures and demands of the workplace. The programs at William W. Winpisinger cover a diverse range of training to ensure that officers and staff are prepared to serve fellow members.The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers purchased the property in 1980 and held the first class on August 4, 1981. During the first few years, only 435 students attended classes because of space limitations. In 1983 the company completed five classrooms, 71 dormitory rooms, a kitchen, theater and a full range of recreational facilities. A staff of 52 full-time employees and 11 part-time employees maintain the center.In 2002, 2,385 students completed classes making a total of over 41,685 students who have attended classes since the Education and Technology Center's inception.The center recently expanded to accommodate the growing need of members. In addition to hiring new instructors and constructing a new wing, the Center added two new classrooms, a computer lab, three meeting rooms, and 40 hotel rooms.
