Objective:

To develop an understanding of the fundamentals of trade unionism.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the roots of the North American labor movement and its influence on the development of labor law, involvement in government, and the growth of the North American economy
  • Parliamentary procedures
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the union steward
  • Describe the basic structure of the United States and Canadian governments and ways to facilitate activism on a local level
  • Define Collective Bargaining, the types of collective bargaining relationships, and the elements of a collective bargaining agreement
  • Define sexual harassment and the union's obligations in sexual harassment issues
