Description

Objective:

The course objective is to educate law enforcement and non-commissioned personnel assigned to investigative tasks and duties such as property and evidence technicians, crime scene investigators, fire investigators, detectives, medicolegal death investigators, patrol officers, corrections officers and forensic nurses who collect or store evidence. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to perform the duties of the Property and Evidence Technician necessary to ensure the preservation, security, and proper disposition of property collected by law enforcement personnel.

  • demonstrate knowledge in the organizational structure of the property room and the responsibilities of a technician
  • practice packaging and storage skills needed for evidence integrity
  • simulate evidence room security as well as safely handling evidence submitted
  • determine the applicable laws and regulations pertaining to evidence

  • recognize audits and inventories in the setting of an evidence property technician
