Description

Objective:

The course objective is to strengthen the student's ability to comprehend, analyze, translate, and transcribe authentic ILR (Interagency Language Roundtable Level 2+/3* (ACTFL Advanced High/Superior) Spanish texts.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Determine the grammar construction(s) needed to accurately complete a sentence when presented with an incomplete passage
  • Justify choices by citing Spanish grammar rules and exceptions
  • Translate authentic Spanish passages into idiomatic journalistic English
  • Produce a correct Spanish transcript or partial transcript of an authentic audio passage
  • Justify translation and writing choices, citing Spanish grammar rules and exceptions
  • Distinguish between subjunctive and indicative triggers
  • As well as compare/contrast use of preterit and imperfect constructions
  • Distinguish between correct and incorrect Spanish grammar usage
  • Analyze se constructions (reflexive, passive, se = le(s), reciprocal)
