Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enable students to improve their analytical and evaluation skills, thereby enhancing their ability to decode an authentic Spanish ILR level 3+ text with 85% accuracy. SPAN4302 builds upon the framework and topics introduced in SPAN4301 and addresses additional concepts. A variety of authentic materials will expose the learner to a broad range of complex structures and semantic items.

Learning Outcomes:

  • analyze advanced grammatical structures, semantic nuances, and complex lexical items in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3+ written text and/or audio segment
  • evaluate transitional phrases and idiomatic expressions in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3+ passage
  • describe strategies used to analyze and translate authentic passages that illustrate grammatical and semantic concepts covered in class
  • edit transitional phrases and idiomatic expressions in a 300-500 word draft translation of an authentic Spanish ILR level 3+ text with 85% accuracy, using working aids
  • compose an idiomatic journalistic translation of an authentic Spanish ILR level 3+ written text and/or audio passage with 85% accuracy, using working aids, paying special attention to advanced grammatical structures and complex lexical items
