Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enhance student's higher level lexical, structural, and socio-cultural competencies in Korean through reading comprehension activities, gisting exercises, writing assignments, and discussions using authentic materials, including editorials or commentaries, literature, newspapers articles, and other publications.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Synthesize information, messages, implications, and significance of lexical semantics in texts by composing written opinions and criticisms
  • Compose with some precision and details when writings about concrete/abstract topics relating to particular interests and special fields of competence
  • Author a short library research papers on current events
  • Summarize authentic reading materials at the level 2+ or higher on current North or South Korean topics
  • Analyze written texts and evaluate contextual and implied meaning of texts in relevance to FLO (Final Learning Objective) topic areas as well as literature
  • Engage in meaningful discourse discussions using critical thinking skills
