Executive Product Support Manager's (PSM) Course is a post-advanced tier (formerly Level III) instructor-facilitated training for ACAT I/II DoD PSMs that focuses on enhancing a PSM’s success in planning for and executing, fielding, and the sustainment of major weapon systems within the framework of 10 U.S.C. §4324 & DoD policy.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Formulate PSM responsibilities and the skills needed to execute those responsibilities.
  • Decide if program metrics are facilitating desired outcomes in a given scenario.
  • Devise strategies associated with planning, coordinating and implementing a Product Support Strategy
  • Plan engagement with the system engineering process, technical management activities, and other key horizontal program entities (e.g., the Contracting Officer) to ensure the system is reliable, available, maintainable and affordable.
  • Build a Product Support Team-related scenario to determine appropriate solutions.
  • Design strategies for effectively managing government funds for product support.
  • Elaborate on the effectiveness of the DoD contracting strategy and contracting officers to implement a system Product Support Strategy.
  • Design a Product Support Manager’s best courses of action, additional information desired, and key stakeholders to engage, in an operational testing/deployment scenario.
  • Propose a plan to effectively manage and improve system sustainment including Sustaining Engineering.
  • Create a Stakeholder Tactical Engagement Plan (STEP) for an upcoming life-cycle management milestone or significant product support challenge.
  • Adapt the John Maxwell 360 Degree Leadership methods to PSM responsibilities and the skills needed to execute those responsibilities.
