Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce students to quantitative and qualitative methods for conducting meaningful inquiry and research. Course focus areas include research intent and design, methodology and technique, format and presentation, and data management and analysis informed by commonly used statistical methods. The course develops the students' abilities to effectively use and apply this knowledge as security leaders in the DoD.

General Course Topics:

  • The process of conducting research, research design, qualitative research, qualitative data analysis, quantitative research, sampling concepts, quantitative data collection methods, applied statistics, descriptive statistics and graphing, comparative/inferential stats, mixed methods research, data mining, writing about quantitative findings, writing about qualitative or mixed methods findings, critically critiquing research reports, and creating research in the security environment
