Description

Objective:

The AS Level Environmental Management exam consists of two components. Paper 1 assesses principles of environmental management over 1 hour and 45 minutes, requiring answers to 4-6 structured questions (non-multiple choice) as well as an essay from a choice of two questions. Paper 2 assesses management in context over 1 hour and 45 minutes, requiring students to answer 4-6 structured questions. Overall, students are assessed on their knowledge and understanding, information handling and analysis, and investigational skills and making reasoned judgements and conclusions based on qualitative and quantitative information.
There is not an A Level option for Environmental Management.

Skills Measured:

There are three assessment objectives. 1) Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, in familiar and unfamiliar contexts, of a)phenomena, facts, definitions, concepts and theories; b) vocabulary, terminology and conventions; and c) policies, strategies and technological applications for managing the environment at local, regional and global levels. 2) Candidates should be able, in words or using other forms of presentation (e.g. graphical or numerical), in familiar and unfamiliar contexts, to a) locate, select, organise and present information from a variety of sources; b) translate information and evidence from one form to another • manipulate numerical data; c) interpret and evaluate data, report trends and draw inferences; and d) give reasoned explanations for phenomena, patterns and relationships. 3) Candidates should be able, in familiar and unfamiliar contexts, to plan investigations; identify limitations of methods and suggest possible improvements; and make reasoned judgements and reach conclusions based on qualitative and quantitative information.
