Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce students to a variety of concepts in manufacturing planning and control with specific emphasis on demand forecasting, aggregate planning, inventory management (cycle and safety), network design and facility location, sourcing, and productivity analysis.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Formulate and solve production planning problems
  • Demonstrate understanding of cycle inventory management in a supply chain with an emphasis on ordering policies
  • Identify uncertainties in safety inventory management by reviewing continuous and periodic review policies
  • Identify transportation modeling and discuss how to construct and solve transshipment models
  • Consider multiple factors such as supplier evaluations, supply base optimization, and production efficiency when making sourcing or manufacturing decisions.
  • Apply short-term and long-term demand forecasting approaches
  • Consider network design models when making multiple-sourcing and plant location decisions
