Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce the Spanish language; emphasis is placed on auditory comprehension, basic speech production, reading comprehension, and composition. Grammar and vocabulary are taught through dynamic immersion and textbook reading and assignments, the focus is on using Spanish as a means of communication. Present, future, preterit, and imperfect tenses will be introduced. The student will utilize Rosetta Stone's award winning language software to practice language pronunciation using their computer speakers and microphone.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Request and give personal information (name, age, where they live, telephone number, etc.)
  • Identify numbers 0-1000 out of sequence
  • Describe their house and the town in which they live, their daily routine, life as a university student, the weather, eating, shopping, and travel experiences
  • Identify some characteristics of Hispanic countries (history, food, geography, etc.)
  • Describe some Hispanic customs and traditions and compare them to those of the United States
  • Gain practical experience writing, orating, and listening to conversational Spanish
  • Greet others
  • Describe immediate family, people (personality and physical characteristics), and animals in simple terms
  • Tell time, dates and days of week for events
  • Discuss their likes and dislikes
  • Talk about feelings
  • Address people formally and informally
  • Talk on the telephone and comprehend simple texts in Spanish
  • Narrate in the present, preterit, and imperfect tense in addition to describing future events and actions
