The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture with a broad mission area that includes: protecting and promoting agricultural health, regulating genetically engineered organisms, administering the Animal Welfare Act and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. APHIS has approximately 8,000 employees, worldwide.APHIS' Politically Savvy Memos course is a 3-part course that covers informational memos, briefing memos, and decision memos. The informational memo segment focuses on identifying the audience and purpose for the memo in addition to understanding the needs of the reader. The briefing memo segment focuses on developing talking points intended to be spoken by the memo recipient during a meeting. The decision memo segment focuses on identifying the problem to be solved, developing options, constructing a logical and parallel assessment of the options, and providing a recommendation.
