Organization Section 1 Content Section 1 Content Left Section 1 Content Right The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) developed their first test in 1965. ISCET is the technical division of National Electronics Service Dealers Association (NESDA). ISCET elects their own chairman and board of governors. The purpose of the society is to promote and aid qualified electronics technicians and to provide a standard measure of theoretical proficiency. ISCET awards four scholarships each year to the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Skill Olympics for Electronics Product Servicingand Electronics Technology. They also serve as a consultant to the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools. They provide a wide variety of study materials on paper, computer disk, and interactive media. The exams are offered in both paper and computerized versions.ISCET examinations are divided into two levels-Associate and Journeyman. The Associate examination covers the general electronics theory and applications necessary for all disciplines of electronics. The Journeyman examinations cover electronics theory and applications relevant to the respective field of electronics. The Journeyman options are Computer, Industrial, Communications, Biomedical, and Consumer Electronics. Passing the Associate exam is a prerequisite for achieving the Journeyman level. There is a requirement that anyone acquiring the journeyman status must have a total of four or more years of electronic education and/or experience in electronics. More than 46,000 persons are currently certified by ISCET.The ISCET examinations have been used as a prerequisite for technician positions with government and commercial organizations. It is being used by some major electronics manufacturers both as a qualifying exam and as one of the promotion criteria for in-house technicians. ISCET has more than 400 Certification Administrators worldwide to administer the Certified Electronics Technician (CET) exams. ISCET has also been chosen by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve as one of nine Commercial Operator LicenseExamination Managers (COLEMs) to administer the FCC exams. Authors chosen for their expertise in the respective disciplines write the CET examinations, all multiple-choice. Committeesof educators and successful technicians then meticulously review the questions. This review is designed to ensure that each question is both technically and grammatically correct, the question form is correct, that all distractors are plausible, and that there are no ambiguous answers. The examinations are alsosubjected to item and reliability analyses. The Certified Electronics Technician (CET) program, founded in 1965, is designed to measure the degree of theoretical knowledge and technical proficiency of practicing technicians. The voluntary certification concept enables employers to separate knowledgeable job applicants from those with less training and skills. The examinations also protect consumers. In the absence of governmental licensing, the Certification Pro-gram can help ensure consumers that the person entrusted to service their electronicproducts possesses the knowledge, the training, and the experience necessary to do a good job.
