Organization

Since its founding in 1911 by Katharine Gibbs, the school has grown from a two-room unit in Providence, R.I., to an eight-school organization that prepares over 4,000 graduates a year for positions as executive secretaries. The educational objective of the Katharine Gibbs School are supported by a selective admissions policy, a carefully structured curriculum offering courses both in business subjects and in the liberal arts, and a credentialed teaching staff that includes a full-time faculty as well as adjunct professors from near-by colleges and universities.Katharine Gibbs School prepares its students for entry-level executive secretarial positions via the following full-time programs: The One-Year Executive Secretarial Program, The One-Year Advanced Executive Secretarial Program, The One-Year Word Processing Program, The Special Program for college women, and The Two-Year Liberal Arts-Secretarial Program. College graduates may also obtain entry-level secretarial skills in an eleven-week training program called ENTREE. In addition, the school offers day and evening adult training programs, and specialized evening courses and seminars. The essence of the Gibbs education, however, is more than its curriculum. Today, as always, Gives places a high priority on each person's growth as a total professional who will be involved in a creative interaction of business relationships that demand a unique blend of strengths. Gibbs seeks to instill in students a high degree of confidence and determination, a respect for their own attitudes and standards, and an ambition to pursue even greater responsibilities and achievements. It is the commitment to the total professional that is at the heart of the Gibbs educational philosophy.Credit recommendations are intended for use by students who take the one-year program.
