Description

Objective:

The course objective is to prepare students for completion of the Instrumentation Advanced Bundle. This bundle is a combination of the following courses: Instrumentation 1 and Instrumentation 2. Concepts are explained from their theoretical roots to their application principles, with reminders about safety and technology. More complex material such as; configuration and calibration, including proper documentation are also covered in this course. Students will learn fundamentals of automated process control, control valves and control valve maintenance, analytical instrumentation, and instrument installation and tubing. This course provides the necessary curriculum to obtain the IBEW/UA Instrument Certifications, Part A and Part B.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Determine the basics of instrumentation, including common terms and symbols
  • Demonstrate how to troubleshoot process control systems
  • Identify basic symbols and terms commonly used with instrumentation
  • Demonstrate how to configure and calibrate an instrumentation unit, including proper documentation
  • List the instrument calibration procedures
  • Identify bench calibration of analog instruments and communicating with and configuring digital or 'smart' instruments
