Description

Objective:

The course objective is to focus on the essential skills needed to work with Linux on a daily basis, as an end user or a basic system administrator. The skills learned in this course apply across all the major Linux distributions including Red Hat, Fedora, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu and SUSE. The course is supplemented with many hands-on exercises that reinforce the lectures. No prior knowledge of Linux is necessary to take this course.

  • Use the rich set of Linux file management utilities
  • Modify bash startup files
  • Use networking utilities including ssh, scp, and sftp
  • Log in and out of the system
  • Launch graphical applications
  • Perform work using terminal shell windows

  • Get help using the online manual
  • Use the bash shell for a wide variety of functions
  • Use various file manipulation utilities
  • Launch and control jobs
  • Kill processes through knowledge of the process tree

  • Write scripts to control the bash shell
