Description

Objective:

The course objective is to perform a basic penetration test, including preparatory research, conducting active network scanning, and conducting exploitation to prepare for advanced training or work as a member in a penetration testing team. Students will also be able to work as a defensive information security analyst.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to explain the penetration testing process
  • Interact with Metasploit from the command line interface
  • Employ automated network vulnerability scanners
  • Perform remote exploitation
  • Gathering information from targets for future exploitation efforts
  • Employ persistence techniques
  • Use redirection and pivoting techniques in a computer network
  • Identify, select and recover high value files and information on a remote computer
  • Perform local privilege escalation
  • And perform rudimentary or triage analysis of malware to include characterizing malware capabilities
  • Interact with Metasploit using Armitage and graphical user interface based tools
  • Conduct open source research to identify vulnerabilities
  • Describe different types of malware
