Description

Objective:

The course objective is to allow students to gain advanced insight toward the application of accident prevention procedures and the responsibilities that accompany them. By following the army investigation and reporting procedures, the students perform in a manner which results in an effective army safety program.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply the basic principles and theories of psychology to accident prevention
  • Compare and contrast several examples as they apply to the psychology of safety (including human factors) components covered in the course
  • Discuss how different personalities affect an organization and how they may contribute to an unsafe culture
  • Relate the role of the safety professional to psychology and the human factor
  • Apply human factor concepts to an accident case study and define controls that could be used to prevent accidents
  • Analyze how stress and fatigue develops, how it affects mental and physical health, and how to cope with it
