Description

Objective:

To prepare advanced riders for safe behaviors in a complex world of traffic.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain why the primary cause of motorcycle crashes is a combination of factors
  • List characteristics, procedures, and techniques for effective cornering
  • List characteristics, procedures, and techniques for effective braking
  • Name some principles of safety and risk
  • Describe the characteristics of rider behavior and appropriate decision-making
  • Briefly explain the meaning and safety implications of increasing skill while also increasing risk (risk offset)
  • Identify the value of having sufficient skills to manage risk-taking choices
  • State the value of riding within personal skill limits
  • Execute quick stops within an acceptable standard, and be able to maneuver into an open lane after stopping
  • Describe the safety implications of the three parts of total stopping distance
  • Execute speed and lane position adjustments for swerving
  • Execute speed and lane position adjustments for multiple curves
  • Execute speed and lane position adjustments for decreasing radius curves
  • Assess personal sensation-seeking, skill level, and risk-taking behaviors
  • List characteristics, procedures, and techniques for effective swerving
  • Describe the visual and cognitive functions needed for safe riding
  • State the value of a pre-ride motorcycle inspection
  • Demonstrate basic skills in low-speed maneuvering processes
  • Use various body lean angles for turning and cornering
