Description

Objective:

The objective of this course is to allow students to demonstrate knowledge of the principles that contribute to successful leadership practice in a wide variety of organizational settings. Topics include what leadership is, the challenges leaders face, the impact leadership has and how leaders build organizations, the laws of leadership, and key relationships. Emphasis is placed on military and industry leadership knowledge and application.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify different communication styles including that management literature is to be used as a practical tool and resource to instruct students, diagnose employee potential, or become the nucleus of a staff development program
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and leadership skills in a group setting
  • Analyze the application of leadership theory in a military setting
  • Identify what leadership styles are the most effective
  • Apply concepts of empowerment
  • Identify leadership roles in safety and occupational health
  • Prepare a graduate level, original research paper that addresses current issues within the scope of their area of work
