Description

Objective:

The course objective is to expand each student's knowledge and understanding of the regulations established by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the Department of Defense (DoD) service components and apply them to workplace hazards unique to the Department of Defense. This course expands risk management procedures to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards associated with occupational exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards in DoD workplaces to include military operations and deployments.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Examine service specific (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force) program requirements for DoD occupational health programs (sight/vision conservation, hearing conservation, ergonomics, respiratory protection, asbestos, lead, non-ionizing radiation, and sanitation)
  • Explain the scope of preventative medicine services and environmental health
  • Describe the DoD occupational health team and their major roles
  • Contrast Department of Defense (DoD) and service specific occupational health program requirements to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements
  • Explain the procedures of the Department of Defense Occupational and Environmental Health program in relation to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of health hazards throughout DoD workplace within garrison and operational environments
  • Explain the scope of the DoD occupational health program
  • Describe the inter-relationship between safety, occupational health, and preventative medicine services
