Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide the student with specialized knowledge of the Army's safety and occupational health program, the intern's organization mission and specialized programs and overall exposure to the full spectrum of Army Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program functions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) discipline's functional elements and an understanding of the processes involved in the management and implementation of the Army SOH Program
  • Complete segment 1, consisting of 4-6 developmental assignments and On the Job Training (OJT), approved by the Major Command Program Manager
  • Participate in a specialized training program such as chemical weapons demilitarization safety and tactical safety
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of accident prevention, risk management, and Department of the Army SOH regulations, mandated regulations administered by other Federal agencies, and national consensus standards
  • Analyze accidents to identify causes and recommend corrective action to prevent recurrence
  • Achieve basic work skills required to successfully perform developmental assignments and on-the-job-training (OJT)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of fire prevention and control, industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental safety, and health physics
  • Analyze hazards, assess risks, and recommend safe work procedures for operations, activities, facilities, equipment, materials, or devices
  • Use evaluation, inspection, investigation, and analysis techniques to identify accident- producing factors as they relate to programs, operations, and activities
