The course objective is to provide the foundational training for New Hire and Returning TSO's to ensure mission and vision success. Additionally, significant improvements in TSA climate and culture can manifest through a systematic centralized Academy training program.

Learning Outcomes:

  • demonstrate common items recognition on the x-ray
  • recognize prohibited and HAZMAT items based on shape, color, and density using X-ray analysis techniques
  • operate the X-ray Simulator
  • distinguish IED components
  • differentiate the characteristics of IEDs on x-ray images
  • apply Behavior Detection Awareness
  • demonstrate understanding of Phase I concepts
  • perform pat-down procedures
  • explain how transgender individuals are screened in accordance with Screening Checkpoint SOP guidelines
  • understand when LGA should be screened using the BLS and become familiar with the BLS machines
  • perform additional screening procedures for individuals
  • summarize AT procedures
  • demonstrate basic operation of checkpoint equipment
  • perform additional screening of accessible property procedures
  • apply and demonstrate screening procedures for WTMD, AIT, X-ray, and ETD station
  • explain screening checkpoint procedures and operating functions from Week 1
  • perform AIT, WTMD, PAT-DOWN, and ETD procedures for individuals with disabilities or medical conditions and their medical equipment/devices
