Description

Objective:

The course objective is to analyze basic theories of morality such as utilitarianism, altruism and existentialism. The course also investigates ethical issues such as social and personal, ethical issues in healthcare, and business.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between ethical and moral concepts, including autonomy and paternalism, beneficence and nonmaleficence, and obligations and prima facie.
  • Identify logical approaches to assessing social and personal ethical issues.
  • Recognize several major theories related to normative human interactions and behaviors.
  • Apply ethical theories and philosophies to medicine, the workplace, the environment, and social interactions.
  • List elements that compose morality itself and recognize how these elements intersect to produce ethical and unethical worldviews.
  • Identify the origins of ethical theory and recognize the ways in which it has evolved from antiquity to the contemporary era.
