Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce historical and cultural events worldwide and the rise of civilization through a historical lens; highlights include in-depth discovery of early civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, Persia and Asia, medieval Europe, Islamic Civilization, East Asia, the Renaissance, the Aztecs, the Incas, and the colonial efforts in North American; The course closes with a look at colonial expansion worldwide, the world wars and modern age.

Learning Outcomes:

  • chart the development of first civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, the Americas, Greece, and Rome), and identify the primary characteristics of these societies, including political, religious, and geographical features
  • compare the spread of European power into the rest of the world, the impact of exchange on new territories and people, as well as the impact on Europe
  • associate periods of revolution, reformation, and industrialization, as well as political and ideological conflicts in the developments of the modern period.
  • review the rise of multicultural empires, the spread of people, ideas, and technologies into new territories, and the escalation of global trade
