Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide students with the detailed knowledge to support navigational planning to conduct a safe maritime passage by using terrestrial and coastal navigation aids.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Determine a ship's position by landmarks and aids to navigation, including lighthouses, beacons, and buoys
  • Conduct a passage by dead reckoning while incorporating winds, tides, currents, and estimated speed
  • Properly use navigational charts and publications, including sailing directions tide tables, notices to mariners, radio navigational warnings, and ship's routing information
  • Plan and conduct a passage
