Objective:

To introduce the principles of effective interpersonal communications and relationships within the healthcare setting.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define the vocabulary associated with human relations
  • Demonstrate the various ways to communicate with the patient
  • Differentiate between discrimination, prejudice and sexual harassment, how to become aware of each and the steps to deal with each
  • Explain time management and target various time wasters and ways to eliminate or effectively deal with them
  • Greet a patient, schedule an appointment and use proper telephone techniques for incoming and outgoing calls
  • Explain issues for consideration when caring for patients with special and specific needs and behaviors
  • Discuss methods of assisting patients and families with emotional crises
  • Explain Professionalism with all its implications
  • Explain the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and the ways to improve those relationships
