Description

Objective:

To prepare the students to use Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) with application to appropriate claims forms.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain and use the CPT manual in assigning the proper codes for respective procedures
  • Understand how E/M codes are assigned and the factors the affect their usage
  • Explain and assign the coding formats associated with laboratory, radiography, and pathology requirements and guidelines
  • Recognize symbols used in the CPT manual
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the information contained in section guidelines
  • Define unlisted procedures/services and state the importance of staying current with CPT guidelines
  • Analyze and differentiate between categories and subcategories
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the medicine guidelines and apply the medical section codes
  • Recognize the use of medical claims forms
