Description

Objective:

To review the anatomy and physiology of the liver, gall bladder and pancreas, including hands-on scanning.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the anatomy of the liver on diagrams and sonograms
  • Identify laboratory data relevant to the liver
  • Identify and obtain images of hepatic structures
  • Describe and identify hepatic vascular flow abnormalities
  • Identify the anatomy of the extrahepatic biliary system on diagrams and sonograms
  • Identify and obtain images of the gallbladder and biliary system
  • List clinical symptoms of gallbladder disease
  • Identify pathological patterns of gallbladder disease
  • Explain the physiology of the pancreas
  • Describe and demonstrate sonographic techniques for imaging the pancreas
  • Describe and demonstrate sonographic techniques for imaging the gastrointestinal tract
  • Obtain satisfactory clinical evaluations
  • Describe and recognize on images common pathologies of the liver
  • Describe the ultrasound appearance of hepatic trauma
  • Discuss follow up of liver transplantation
