Description

Objective:

To provide students with an introductory level childhood and adolescence psychology course. The course will examine the significant events from the lives of people as they move from infancy and early childhood, into adolescence. The course will explore all aspects of children's physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth and development from birth through early adolescence. It includes the most recent theoretical and applied perspectives about effective ways to care for and work with children.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Have knowledge of the field of developmental psychology
  • Will understand the methods of developmental research and the theories that have influenced childhood psychology
  • Will explore the biological factors of heredity that affect the human life span and the factors of pregnancy and child birth, including conception, prenatal, birth, and neonate
  • Will have knowledge of the early development of human life and the developmental landmarks that take place, including the first year, toddler language, the affects of neglect and abuse in early childhood, play, imagination, middle childhood, and social and emotional development
  • Understand the physical and cognitive development involved in adolescence including the effects of teen relationships
