Learning Outcomes:

  • Will be able to identify the three developmental clocks that play a role in each season of life, including the biological clock, the social clock, and the psychological clock
  • Will explore the biological factors of heredity that affect the human life span and the factors of pregnancy and child birth, including genetic contributors, preterm birth, teratogens, and how the developmental clocks influence the timing of births
  • Will understand the methods of developmental research, including naturalistic observation, case studies, interviews, experimentation and the theories that have influenced life-span psychology, including psychoanalytic theory, learning theory, cognitive theory, and humanistic theory
