Description

Objective:

The course objective is to cover management approaches; human decision making; conflict management; communication in groups; power and influence; organizational environment, structure and design; and fundamental forces of change.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between the main approaches to management, including the classical, humanistic, and positive organizational behavioral approaches
  • Explain Examine the basic principles of human perception, including the attribution process and the influence of perceptual Biases
  • Identify the steps of the creative process and the strategies and techniques that organizations and individuals can use to foster creativity and innovation
  • Summarize approaches to decision making, the obstacles to making effective decisions, and common techniques used in decision making
  • Explain the principles and processes of interpersonal and organizational communication through understanding various communication styles and ways to overcome barriers to communication
  • Describe the differences between the roles of leaders and managers, and explain the factors, including personal integrity, cultural mindset, social responsibility, and global sustainability, that affect the way they act
  • Explain Distinguish between the various levels of culture and types of diversity and their influence on organizational structure and behavior, and demonstrate an understanding of Hall's Cultural Context Framework, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions, and the GLOBE model
  • Summarize the effects of self-awareness, personality, emotions, and values on individual behavior
  • Describe Compare the common models of appraising motivation, through a command of the basic principles of need theories, expectancy theory, goal theory, equity theory, and reinforcement theory
  • Explain the relationship between engagement and motivation
  • Describe the causes of, reactions to, and methods of managing stress
  • Identify the reasons organizations assemble teams and the characteristics of teams that affect performance
  • Apply basic strategies for conflict management through understanding the sources and dynamics of interpersonal and organizational conflict
  • Outline the characteristics of traditional and contemporary approaches to leadership
  • Evaluate the various sources of power for individuals and describe the relationship between politics and power within an organizational structure
