Description

Objective:

The course objective is to teach students how to use Unity's real-time 3D rendering engine to build mobile Augmented Reality applications for industrial design prototyping and visualization, bringing their 3D designs and models into real-world contexts.

Students will learn how to build mobile AR applications using industry-standard target techniques: image and planar retection. These applications will include interactive and responsive and interactive user interfaces, real-world interaction, realistic 3D audio, 2D and 3D virtual objects, and custom animations. Students will learn how to build these applications for iOS and Android mobile devices and implement UX best practices for AR, and strategize/ideate around creative, immersive projects.

By the end of this course they will both understand how Unity fits into the AR application development cycle, and also how to use its native features to maximize their application's potential and quality.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the role of Unity and Unity Developers in AR application development.
  • Explain how augmented reality can be used as an Industrial Design tool.
  • Construct realistic 3D virtual environments and photorealistic 360 environments.
  • Build interactive AR applications with responsive UI, using planar detection, and image and object recognition to view 3D objects in the real world.
  • Implement best-of-class user experience Unity features.
