Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide learners with a roadmap for establishing a community resilience coalition and to encourage community leaders to make resiliency gains within the unique circumstances of their jurisdiction.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Incorporate research linking social capital to community resilience and then identify examples of each in communities across the country
  • Examine the state of preparedness of the individual, to include common motivations and barriers to getting prepared for disasters
  • Develop strategies to leverage collaborative structures, such as emergency management bodies, interfaith councils, civic associations, chambers of commerce, and parent-teacher associations in order to facilitate community resiliency gains at the tribal, state, local, and territorial level
  • Build a roadmap, or strategic plan, to implement resilience-building initiatives into each student’s community
