Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide participants with knowledge of FEMA’s Coastal Construction Manual (FEMA P-55, 2011) as well as give an introduction to planning, siting, designing, constructing, and maintaining homes in the coastal environment. The participants should also develop knowledge of other available tools that relate to residential coastal construction.

  • Specify the differences in design requirements and expected performance between coastal construction and inland construction
  • Detail the significance and “lessons” of historical events at the coast
  • Describe minimum requirements and “best practices” for coastal construction
