Description

Objective:

This course is designed to enhance and strengthen student’s functional use of the language by stressing active language production and accuracy to cultivate a language analyst capable of excelling at more than passive tasks. Given authentic ILR Level 3 to 3+ reading and listening Arabic passages students should be able to demonstrate comprehension of the passages with at least 77% accuracy

Learning Outcomes:

  • incorporate effective listening and reading strategies with the controlled use of dictionaries and reference material
  • produce a verbatim transcript and idiomatic translation
  • analyze cultural and linguistic concepts and ideas and incorporate these concepts into reflective writing samples
  • convey meaning in conversation utilizing proper pronunciation, grammar, word order, and word usage as if to a native speaker at the ILR 3 level
  • apply the principles of word formation, contextual and real-world clues to both listening and reading strategies
