Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enhance essential skills in MSA language analysis that will enable students to solidify ILR L2 reading and listening proficiency and serve as the foundation from which students can more rapidly and consistently enhance proficiency to ILR 2+ and beyond. Given authentic ILR Level 2+ reading/listening passages and with the use of working aids, students should be able to demonstrate comprehension of passages with at least 77% accuracy

Learning Outcomes:

  • apply knowledge of vocabulary, grammar (syntax and morphology), culture, and text type to analysis of ILR L2-2+ content
  • produce accurate transcriptions and idiomatic translations of ILR L2-2+ content
  • apply knowledge of the history and culture of the Middle East to language analysis tasks at ILR L2-2+
  • recognize, analyze, and apply discourse models appropriate to most social, educational, business, and professional contexts to L2+
  • evaluate and leverage requisite resources to support analysis at level
  • interpret in writing or speech at ILR L2-2+, current key issues at the heart of Arabic-speaking society across the Final Learning Objective (FLO) topics
