Description

Objective:

Given authentic ILR Level 3 reading and listening Persian passages on Final Learning Objectives (FLO) topics from the ILR and with the use of working aids, students should be able to demonstrate comprehension of the passages with at least 85% accuracy. Evaluate one's learning strategies used by the students and alternatives through reflection and self-assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify the essential elements of information (EEI);
  • create titles for passages or sections of the passages;
  • provide a gist of the texts after the initial reading;
  • summarize the texts after 1-2 additional readings;
  • predict vocabulary based on the topic
  • use context, word-formation, and background knowledge to predict the meaning of unfamiliar words
  • render translations in idiomatic English
  • decode meanings of figurative and idiomatic expressions and nuances using background knowledge
  • identifying high-frequency grammatical and syntactic structures in context
  • distinguish fact from opinion, providing justification from the text
  • identify and analyze areas of the text where it is necessary to read "between the lines" to understand the full ramifications of the text in its wider cultural, political or social context
  • identify author’s tone or intent-based and support opinions by using relevant literary devices within the text – word choice, irony, sarcasm, etc.
  • apply advanced organizers including text-mapping tools to organize and categorize information
  • evaluate content-related questions about the passages
