Description

Objective:

This course is designed to enhance and strengthen student’s functional use of the language by demonstrating the ability to read, listen, transcribe, and translate up to an ILR 3 level MSA passages with or without the use of working aids. Given authentic materials (i.e. Arabic humor, handwriting, social media posts, etc.), originating from a wide variety of sources (audio, visual, written, etc.), students should be able to demonstrate comprehension of the content with at least 77% accuracy

  • apply a detailed knowledge of the history and culture of the Middle East to complex language analysis tasks
  • use requisite resources to support analysis
  • apply knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and culture of the Middle East to perform analysis of authentic ILR Level 2+ and ILR Level 3 MSA content
  • produce accurate transcription and translation products of authentic ILR Level 2+ MSA content
  • demonstrate a thorough understanding of MSA grammar essentials (syntax and morphology)
