Description

Objective:

The course objective is for students to be able to comprehend implicit and explicit information extracted from ILR Level 2+/3 (ACTFL Advanced-Plus) authentic Spanish graphic and audio sources.

Learning Outcomes:

  • select the essential elements of information in an authentic ILR Level 2+/3 written text by answering questions, outlining, paraphrasing, and summarizing in English with at least 85% accuracy;
  • identify the tone and the author's intent in an authentic ILR Level 2+/3 text, providing justification from the text, with at least 85% accuracy
  • select the essential elements of information in an audio/video clip by answering questions, outlining, paraphrasing, and summarizing in English, with at least 85% accuracy
  • evaluate the tone of an audio cut and the speaker's intent, providing justification from the audio, with at least 85% accuracy
  • analyze authentic ILR Level 2+/3 content by applying knowledge of Spanish vocabulary, grammar, and Latin American culture
  • produce a verbatim Spanish transcript of an authentic 1-2-minute ILR Level 2+/3 Spanish audio clip, with 85% accuracy, using working aids
  • compose an idiomatic journalistic translation of an authentic 400-500-word ILR Level 2+/3 Spanish text, with 85% accuracy, using working aids
