Description

Objective:

The objective of the course is for Russian Language Analysts to be able to read ILR Level 2 Ukrainian texts and aurally comprehend level 2 Ukrainian audio passages. The focus of the course is a systematic comparison of the Russian and Ukrainian languages to include phonology, orthography, declension, conjugation and prepositions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • relate Ukrainian vocabulary to their Russian equivalents and English definitions
  • summarize authentic Ukrainian written and/or audio passages to determine their essential elements of information
  • transcribe authentic Ukrainian audio passages with the assistance of working aids and a partial transcript
  • translate authentic Ukrainian texts into coherent standard English.
  • compare Ukrainian grammatical forms with their Russian counterparts and draw conclusions about the morphology
