The course objectives are to discuss what the cloud is and why it is a technological and business game changer; describe the different ways a user can interact with Google Cloud; discover the different compute options in Google Cloud; implement a variety of structured and unstructured storage models; discuss the different application managed service options in the cloud; outline how security in the cloud is administered in Google Cloud; demonstrate how to build secure networks in the cloud; identify cloud automation and management tools; discover a variety of managed big data services in the cloud; and explain what machine learning is, the terminology used, and its value proposition.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate the core concepts of cloud computing and its advantages.
  • Distinguish between physical, virtual, and cloud architectures, as well as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Confidently navigate the Google Cloud Console and create Cloud projects.
  • Explain how APIs function and effectively test Google APIs using Google API Explorer.
  • Understand compute options in the cloud, including building and managing virtual machines, elastic applications, and event-driven services with Cloud Functions.
  • Discuss physical and cloud storage options, differentiating between structured and unstructured storage, and relational and NoSQL database choices in Google Cloud.
  • Explain the purpose and format of REST APIs, and explore the use case for managed messaging services.
  • Apply best practices in cloud security, grasping the shared responsibility model, encryption options, and authentication and authorization techniques.
  • Differentiate between load balancing options in the cloud, and leverage Cloud Deployment Manager for IaC.
  • Effectively monitor, log, trace, debug, and report errors in cloud environments.
