Description

Objective:

The course objective is to develop the decision-making skills needed by company officers to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the purpose of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and identify the elements of NIMS that provide the template for managing incidents
  • Identify the ICS positions and state their functions
  • Explain the need for a logical thought process
  • Describe Classical Decision Making and Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM)
  • State the importance of knowing when to be proactive and when to be reactive
  • Describe the primary sizeup factors and determine their impact on objectives and strategies
  • Analyze the Command Sequence Action Planning Cycle
  • Identify the strengths, weaknesses, characteristics, and collapse potential for each of the five methods of building construction
  • Identify special safety concerns
  • State the purpose of using the Incident Command System (ICS) effectively
