Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide students with the foundation to correctly apply principles and guidelines of coding using ICD-10-CM classification systems. Students will apply diagnosis codes and validate coding accuracy using clinical information found in the health record. Ethical coding standards will be promoted while adhering to current regulations and established guidelines in code assignment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply ICD-10-CM conventions, formats, instructional notations, tables, and definitions to select diagnoses, conditions, problems, or other reasons for the encounter
  • Assign ICD-10-CM code by applying diagnostic coding and reporting guidelines for out/inpatient services (hospital-based and physician office)
  • Utilize AHA Coding Clinic to assist in proper assignment of diagnostic codes
