Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide an introduction to management practices in the health care field as well as the types of organizations and how they are structured. The general focus is on management concepts and processes which are necessary for students who intend to practice in the healthcare field. Leadership style, the role of middle management, supervision of professional staff, evaluation of program effectiveness and fiscal accountability are explored. Emphasis is placed on the differences in management in health care as compared to other industries. The importance of patient care and ethical issues are also explored. Outside preparation includes reviewing notes, answering chapter exercises, studying for exams, and assigned readings.
