Description

Objective:

The course objective is to focus on Alternating Current (AC) devices and circuits. It progresses to the study of resistors, capacitors, and inductors as they pertain to AC circuits. Students are introduced to inductive and capacitive reactance and their effect in AC conditions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify complex resistive circuits
  • Apply Network Theorems
  • Define capacitive reactance
  • Analyze capacitors in RC circuits
  • Define RCL circuits
  • Define inductive reactance
  • Analyze inductors in RL circuits
  • Analyze Resonance and filter configurations
  • Apply transformer principles

General Topics:

  • Complex resistive circuits
  • Inductors, inductive reactance, inductors in series and parallel, and RL circuits in AC
  • Capacitors, capacitive reactance, capacitors in series and parallel, and RC circuits in AC
  • Reactive power and true power
  • RCL circuit analysis, series, and parallel RCL circuits
  • Resonance, band pass, band stop, high pass, and low pass filters
  • Basic filter configurations
